4th generation – the way to go

The future of global energy supplies is under threat from the depletion of fossil fuels. It is therefore essential to satisfy growing needs with a safe and cost-effective energy in keeping with environmental conservation.
Fulfilling all these criteria, nuclear power has rallied support from countries which are aware of the importance of having new nuclear technologies available for the future, hence the setting up of the Generation IV International Forum (GIF).
fourth generation reactors
Set up in 2001 at the initiative of the US Department of Energy, the GIF groups together 10 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the USA.Its aim is to develop fourth-generation nuclear energy systems. Planned for commissioning between 2040 and 2045, this reactor generation will further strengthen the criteria of cost effectiveness, nuclear safety and sustainable development.
waste management
Nuclear power plants generate two types of radioactive waste : what happens to this waste afterwards?
